The Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame was started in 1960 and took just over a year to construct. Upon completion of the Walk of Fame, more than 1,558 celebrities were honored with a star. Today, the Walk of Fame features over 2,000 names. The Walk of Fame honors five categories of the entertainment industry: live theater, motion pictures, radio, television, and recording. The Hollywood Walk of Fame was designated by the City of Los Angeles as a Cultural /Historic Landmark in 1978.
